A single EP, ‘Extended Pain’ (2022), was enough to leave hordes of enthusiastic deathcore/metalcore fans pining for thrown’s full-length debut. ‘Excessive Guilt’ dropped in 2024 to rave reviews. The brevity of the songs alone – the 11 tracks marginally surpass the 20-minute mark – betray their punk leanings and the nu-metal undercurrents keep them from getting bogged down by the bleakness that suffuses so many deathcore albums. On the contrary, it’s a well-balanced effort thanks to snappy riffs, top-heavy breakdowns and catchy samples. A special role is reserved for drummer Buster Odeholm. He’s not just a drummer but a producer with a very distinct sonic fingerprint (from bands like Vildhjärta and Humanity's Last Breath). The band themselves have said they are influenced by hard, dark rap tracks, which explains the clipped, percussive vocal delivery and the almost loop-like structure of some songs. Meanwhile thrown have become something of a Spotify phenomenon, with rapid listener growth and a reputation for popping up in playlists automatically, right up to the point where it’s become a bit of a meme in metal circles.
